M.S. Student
Texas Tech University
Turkey Ecology
Laken grew up in Montgomery, Texas and developed a love and passion for the outdoors through her experiences hunting, fishing, and hiking. She received a B.S in Forestry with an emphasis on wildlife management from Stephen F. Austin State University in May 2024. While in undergrad, she was a part of multiple research projects that included studies over lichen diversity, quail abundance on a gulf coast rangeland, and interactions between hogs and javelina. Upon graduation, she has now started earning her M.S. degree under Dr. Conway evaluating the effects of superstocking on genetics and recruitment of wild turkeys in Texas. This collaborative project between TTU and UNT will allow TPWD to make future management and stocking decisions to ensure the growth of turkey populations. Laken hopes to continue her education and share her love of conservation and wildlife through her passion for teaching.
